Effectively inferring overall spatial distribution pattern of species in a map when exact coordinate information is missing

چکیده

Mapping and comparing biodiversity in space is a routine task ecological research. However, accurate mapping requires exact distributional information as inputs. When geographical coordinate missing or when only coarse distribution of species available at the quadrat plot level, how can we effectively infer compare spatial patterns with reasonable accuracy while controlling confounding impacts scale dependency? A crossing-scale coefficient variation (CCV) calculated for three simple diversity indices, Shannon, Gini–Simpson reciprocal-Simpson evenness from quadrat-based data over varying sampling grain sizes subtly measuring overall pattern survey map. Extensive numerical simulations showed that, organisms was regular, CCV tended to be very small, all indices. By contrast, highly aggregate, large. Finally, an intermediate observed organism random. To this end, indices detect subtle change on aggregate regular distribution. Among index most insensitive both population size number used. Compared statistic metrics that coordinates inputs, useful metric assessing across plots which each individual are unavailable. Empirical applications plants habitat patches extensively managed by humans present pattern, being counterintuitive usual expectation cultivated planted land should pattern. The study recommends one effective tool, combination exploring single under quadrat-sampling scheme. proposed method particularly suitable handle finest-scale missing.

Spatial Pattern of Macrobenthos Distribution in Chabahar Bay before Monson

Abstract In the present study, the structure of macrobenthos communities of Chabahar Bay prior to monsoon in 2016 was investigated.  We identified 87 species contain 22 amphipods species, 14 species of other crustaceans, 31 species of molluscs, and 20 polychaets species, where amphipods followed by polychates were dominant taxa. The PERMANOVA test revealed that there is a significant difference...

Evaluation of species diversity and spatial distribution characteristics of five dominant plant species in Hamoon wetlands

This research aimed to investigate plant species diversity and spatial distribution of five dominant species i.e. Phragmites australis, Tamarix meyeri, Aeluropus littoralis, Aeluropus lagopoides and Cynodon dactylon in Hamoon international wetlands in 2015. To this end, a randomize-systematic sampling method was used according to w pattern by four strip transect at 5000 m2 at each station. The ...

Missing in action: Species competition is a neglected predictor variable in species distribution modelling

The central role of species competition in shaping community structure in ecosystems is well appreciated amongst ecologists. However species competition is a consistently missing variable in Species Distribution Modelling (SDM). This study presents results of our attempt to incorporate species competition in SDMs. We used a suit of predictor variables including Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (S...

Inferring Missing Categorical Information in Noisy and Sparse Web Markup

Embedded markup of Web pages has seen widespread adoption throughout the past years driven by standards such as RDFa and Microdata and initiatives such as schema.org, where recent studies show an adoption by 39% of all Web pages already in 2016. While this constitutes an important information source for tasks such as Web search, Web page classification or knowledge graph augmentation, individua...

When is missing data recoverable?

Suppose a non-random portion of a data vector is missing. With some minimal prior knowledge about the data vector, can we recover the missing portion from the available one? In this paper, we consider a linear programming approach to this problem, present numerical evidence suggesting the effectiveness and limitation of this approach, and give deterministic conditions that guarantee a successfu...
